Discover Curling YYC Rules

  1. All players and mentors need to confirm their availability at least 24 hours prior to game-time.
  2. League play is by the CCA rules - Free Guard Zone Rule: The first five stones cannot be removed by an opponent if they are guards. They can be moved, but not taken out. If the opponent's stone takes out a guard in the first five plays then the opponent's rock is removed and the one taken out is replaced. A team can remove their own rocks at any time.
  3. Each game will start with an approximately 15 minute lesson or drill. After the lesson, the two teams will play a game against each other.
  4. The mentors / coaches can stop game play at any time to provide advice, correction, tips, and so on.
  5. Wins and Losses will not be recorded. The nature of the league is purely for skills development, practice and education.
  6. Teams will be formed each week from the pool of players who have RSVP'd to attend. Depending on the numbers of players, teams may comprise of 3 or 4 players.
  7. Players should expect to play every position. Every effort will be made to rotate players through the positions of lead, second, third, and skip throughout the duration of the league.
  8. If a player has to leave the game, a mentor / coach may take their place.
  9. A buzzer will go off 10 minutes prior to the end of the ice rental end time, at which point all teams may complete the end in progress. An end is considered in progress once the last stone of the previous end has been delivered (left the hand of the thrower). So, if you're on the 6th end and the Skip is throwing the last rock, if that rock has left their hand before the buzzer sounds, you may play one more end.
  10. Only clean footwear is allowed on the ice. Smoking, food and alcohol are prohibited in the ice area.
  11. The Discover Curling YYC Organizers reserve the right to ban / bar players from the league if they are found to be in violation of the rules, for non-payment of fees / dues, or for un-sportinglike conduct.
